What is Caribbean Carnival and Jouvert?

As the organizer of "Wetter Fetter" Mas Band for the 2024 Charlotte Caribbean Carnival, I am excited to share the essence of this vibrant celebration with you! - JENNIFER KILFOIL

**Caribbean Carnival**:

- **Cultural Celebration**: A festival that honors Caribbean culture, history, and traditions through music, dance, and colorful costumes.

- **Parades and Mas Bands**: Spectacular parades featuring "Mas Bands" (Masquerade Bands) where participants dress in elaborate costumes and dance through the streets.

- **Music and Dance**: The infectious beats of Soca, Reggae, and Calypso create a lively atmosphere that gets everyone moving.

- **Unity and Joy**: A time for communities to come together, celebrate life, and spread joy and positivity.

**Jouvert**:

- **Pre-Dawn Festivity**: Jouvert (pronounced "joo-vay") is a pre-dawn celebration marking the start of Carnival, typically beginning in the early hours before sunrise.

- **Tradition of Liberation**: Rooted in the history of freedom and emancipation, Jouvert symbolizes liberation and new beginnings.

- **Messy Fun**: Participants cover themselves in paint, powder, mud, and oil, embracing the messiness as a form of joyous expression.

- **Non-Stop Party**: Accompanied by loud music, dancing, and a sense of camaraderie, Jouvert is a non-stop party that sets the tone for the rest of Carnival.
